Nigel Breyley is a former Royal Navy Observer, RAF Navigator, and UK CAA Flight Standards Officer with over 20 years of experience in Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) UAS operations. In his civilian career, he served as Deputy Director of Aviation at QinetiQ—the UK Defence and Aerospace company responsible for conducting test and evaluation activities on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence—where he oversaw regulatory affairs, airspace, and UAS operations. His extensive unmanned aviation background includes attending the US Navy Test Pilot School's UAV Test & Evaluation Short Course. During his tenure at the UK CAA, Nigel worked in the Policy Section on key regulatory initiatives such as ETOPS, RVSM, and civil/military operations. A qualified air safety investigator with a specialization in UAS, Nigel is also a seasoned Aviation Training Designer. He has recently supported the United Nations and several National Aviation Authorities in developing UAS training programmes and BVLOS regulatory frameworks. In recognition of his contributions to aviation, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2022.
